A long time ago we talk about this plugin here.

A lot of Plugins are made in this time and some
of these plugins are do something similar to our
plugin but we develope this plugin for our own
daily work and think it's very usefull.

The Eyecatcher Plugin offer you a simple way
to grab a gif, png or jpg image from a server,
resize it to any size and store it on your server.
(no animated gifs)

The Plugin adds a new field (Screenshot) to your
links table where your visitors (or you) add a url
to a screenshot in any size.

You only have to click a link in your admin to get
the pictures from the url, store in on your server
and resize it to one or more different size.

To use the thumbnails in your pages, you onle have
to place a html image tag in your link or detail
template like:

http://yourserver.de/...ize/<%ID%>.jpg

We use this Plugin on our Software-Site
http://download-tipp.de/
to create the thumbnails which you can see on
our main page and on some detail pages.

Thanks for the admin screenshots. Looking at them, I noticed something.

Does it make multiple thumbnail sizes automatically?
I saw you had two size entries in there.

ie. from the original 800x600, make a 400x300 and a 120x60.

If so, how does it name them to distinguish one from the other?

Yes it's possible to make more as one, two, three, four...
thumbnails of each screenshot.

It's very simple to distinguish the images and use it in your
templates because each size is stored in a different directory
by example:

http://www.YourSite.de/...x60/<%ID%>.jpg
http://www.YourSite.de/eyecatcher/400x300/<%ID%>.jpg

Excellent. Good organization - we do it that way too (manually).

The multiple sizes in one shot is an important feature.

Another question - Can compression quality be set?

We develope this plugin for our own use.
Before we had this plugin, we've made
the screenshots also by hand. we've spend
a lot of time for this work.

We set the image quality to 75% but set
this value directly in the eyecatcher.pm
If you need another qualitiy, you must
change the value in the pm.
