Related Links
I know this has been brought up before, but nonethless.

The proposed solutions for related link (http://gossamer-threads.com/...rum.cgi?post=158775;) works fine if there are only a few relations per link.

Are there plans to include a "related link" mechanism in future versions of Links SQL?

If not, one could build a plugin to do this. The mechanism itself is not difficult, the difficulty (for me at least) would be to make this work with the category/link browser.

I extended the related category feature in my Extended links plugin, so now all related categories can be displayed similarly like in subcategory.html template. The related category template file is named as relcategory.html.
Ok, that was only the news part, what was related to the related features Wink

Moreover, there could be developed a "related category system", which is based on user suggestions.
Users could suggest categories to be related to a category. Only those categories will show up as related category on a category page, which got more than X minimum votes.
Also a relation ranking could be possible based on this.

The idea above, could be merged with your idea to be able create a full relation system, which may be able to treat related link & categories, too. This would be a related links & categories system for LSQL.
Could you imagine something similar in LSQL?

Very good idea webmaster. Its like have the public as another editor (just a little less direct control). I'd like to promote my site as a user/suggestion driven site, making it "thier site". When you go to a major search engine you are dictated to, on how it is to be (no say at all on structure etc).

I love the idea of related links also. I already have 6+ instances of the same links throughout my directory due to the nature of taxonomy/directory classification. It just makes sense to have this, and this is not unwanted duplication either. The problem is when someone writes a review or votes or clicks on one of the instances of the link, it only changes one of them, and not all of them (when I think it should!). If someone liked a link in one category, why wouldn't they like a link in another?

Your extended plugin is sounding very good webmaster.

I'm glad you like the solutions in my upcoming Extended links plugin and the suggested ideas.

About the public related suggestions: even if the public can do votes if they want a link related to another, admin should validate those related links. My opinion is, that a fully automated "related link system" would be not advisable...

Thats exactly what I meant... just forgot to type it!

Yes, all changes should be validated...and the vote system is a good one, as you don't want to be flooded with changes either, you should be able to set the vote threshold before a change put into the validation queue.

I was even thinking that major category deletions by editors should require validation! Like a trigger goes off if an action causes more than say 100 links to be removed, and forces the action (delete in this case) to require validation.Cool
